C. H. Mackintosh (1820-1896)
Charles Henry Mackintosh (1820-1896) was a Bible teacher, expositor, and author. For some forty years edited the monthly magazine, Things New and Old. His first tract, in 1843, was The Peace of God, and his last, shortly before his death, was The God of Peace, aptly reflected the mild and gracious spirit that God granted him. He avoided conflict as far as possible and had a deep devotion and love not only for believers, but for all men. He laid great emphasis upon gathering only unto the name of the Lord on the ground of the One Body.
Born at Glenmalure Barricks, County Wicklow, Ireland, he was the son of Captain Duncan Mackintosh of a Highland regiment. “C. H. M.,” as he was known literarily, was moved to faith in Christ at the age of eighteen through the influence of letters from his sister and the reading of J. N. Darby’s Operations of the Spirit. He is known primarily for his 6-volume set Notes on the Pentateuch and his 6-volume set Miscellaneous Writings.
