Adlai Loudy (1893-1984)
Loudy, born into a musical family, studied at Bacon’s Normal School of Music (Sevierville, TN), Perfect Voice Institute (Chicago), and Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He spent the early part of his life occupied with a career in music, travelling widely throughout the South and Midwest United States. He was also a member of the Rainbow Quartet, making many early musical recordings.
He would serve as principal of Cranberry High School (NC), instructor at J.D. Vaughan’s School of Music (Lawrenceburg, TN) and Homer Rodeheaver’s School of Evangelistic Singers (Winona Lake, IN), as well as Music Director at Milligan College (TN).
He learned of “justification by faith” during his labors with Dr. Wilbur Chapman. Likewise, through a close association with Dr. G. Campbell Morgan, he was introduced to the five aiōns, or ages, as well as the administrations and dispensations of the Scriptures. Morgan encouraged him to procure Rotherham’s Emphasized Bible, as well as the Emphatic Diaglott. He also obtained Clarence Larkin’s book, Dispensational Truth, or God’s Plan and Purpose of the Ages. Being an avid student of the Scriptures, God would further open his eyes to see the grand truth of “Universal Reconciliation.” He would quickly transition to a full-time independent Bible lecture ministry, God’s Purpose of the Ages, using a large colored chart that he had designed.
In 1923 he was introduced to the writings of A.E. Knoch, and soon would become his most active associate, beginning what would be decades of extensive evangelistic touring throughout the US and Canada.
